Septoplasty
Permalink Closed

Two years ago I recieved septoplasty for a deviated septum. I am now experiencing some pretty heinous sinus headaches that feel like 1,000 pound bricks are placed on my head and my nose bleeds at least 2-3 times a day. I am also experiencing some symptoms that I am not sure are related -- cold fingertips, occassional tingling/numbing of my feet and hands, my nose turns very cold and very red around the same time of the day and when I stand up from laying down or sitting, I become very dizzy. I am also experiencing occasional sharp but mostly dull pains in my lower stomach -- different from the monthly ones. Most of the time they are on the left side, but sometimes on the right as well. I've been googling around trying to figure out what these symptoms could possibly be linked to, and so far have come accross Empty Nose Syndrome and a disease of blood platlets. I have already seen a neurologist for the headaches (migraine pills didnt work) and now I have made an appointment with my Ear, Nose & Throat doctor. I just seem to have a plethora of symptoms and don't really know if I am taking the right route or not...if this could be serious or if all the symptoms are even linked or not. aaaaaaah...help.

Hi Kristin..!
Welcome to the forums!

First, it's great that you quickly make appointments with your doctors. Many people are lazy or embarrassed to visit their doctors, so they come to ask for help on forums like this, which I think should not be the first priority. The first priority is a 'real doctor'.

No correct diagnosis can be written down without a full history of the patient, and you've supplied nothing but the septoplasty incident.

As to the symptoms you feel, I don't think they're directly related to the septoplasty you've had. Headaches and migraines are common among many people, and mostly they're caused by no reason, and can't be fully treated either. Nose bleeding could be caused by many reasons, including rise of blood pressure. It might be emotional. It might also have no reason at all (what we call idiopathic).

I think your ENT doctor is going to check for something wrong around your nose which is unlikely. He/She, then, is supposed to switch you to the suitable doctor.

Good Luck
