As far as I know, Vitamin A toxicity only causes hepatosplenomegaly in chronic cases; Chronic toxicity appears after ingestion of 25,000 IU or more daily for prolonged periods of time.
But, unfortunately, I'm not exactly sure why it happens. I've searched in a few sites, but I can't find a definite answer. May be it's due to mechanical damage by Vitamin A?
